A six week series of art classes exploring a variety of art materials & methods. “Monsters Ink” art class is inspired by beasts of every shape & form; we will be creating silly or scary monsters with different mediums each week: clay, printmaking, collage, sculpture, drawing, painting, natural materials, textiles, & mixed-media. Your child will experience being an artist working in an art studio for an hour and a half once a week. Some of the basic elements of art will be taught while having fun & getting messy. Sew What

Printmaking

Learn basic relief printmaking skills as you carve your creative images into linoleum blocks. Then learn how to ink & press your blocks in editions of 5 to 10. A monoprint is one of a kind rather than an edition of prints. Create beautiful colorful prints using painterly techniques and tools on plexiglass or on plates you construct. Build a collagraph plate and make prints of many different styles with it. We will also explore stamp making in this fun class. Class size is limited. Dress for mess.

Recycled Town
Ages: 6 and up

We get creative with recycled materials and make a 3 dimensional town: buildings, houses, towers, cars, trees, & more. These recycled material sculptures may be made out of scraps of cardboard, paper, or wood. Many recycled containers and tubes will be glued together, painted, & covered with collage to bring our town to life. Students taking this class are required to have big imaginations and dress for mess! Space is limited.
Drawing from Life
Ages: 6 and up

This is the class for kids that really want to learn how to draw what they see. We will be drawing on paper of different sizes & colors with a variety of drawing mediums. Weekly warm up drawing exercises will strengthen hand-eye coordination. Learning how to draw what you see is a skill that takes a lot of practice & patience, and starting early will only strengthen one’s artistic ability. Students will be drawing from still life arrangements in class, learning about contour line, negative space, value, texture, as well as taking a sketch book home to practice drawing their environment.
Pinches, Coils, & Slabs
Ages: 5 and up

With your hands and your imagination create ceramic pieces that are sculptural & functional. How cool will it be to drink out of a mug you made by yourself? Clay Workshop

Learn from potter, Jess Dougherty, how to create hand-built ceramics using slab building, coiling, & pinching. You will also learn how to add decorative elements & apply glazes to your pieces. This workshop is a great way to get introduced to the endless possibilities of clay. Register for all 7 classes and receive a discount, or drop in. Drop in fees are $15 per class for adults & teens, includes all materials (clay, firing, glazes) & instruction. $10 per child (12 & under) accompanied by an adult participating in the class.

It’s time for you to take a break and enjoy some creative play time!
